My grandfather is the proudest man I know. When his health began to fail, we offered him every technology that promised to keep him safe — cameras, sensors, wearable buttons. He refused them all. His home was his home. Not a hospital ward. Not a surveillance zone.
We respected his choice. And because nothing was watching over him, help came late when he needed it most. His health never fully recovered. Today he lives with two full-time caregivers — the very loss of independence he feared all along.
For a long time I thought he'd made the wrong call. He hadn't. The products were wrong. Every single one asked him to trade his privacy for his safety — and millions of parents quietly make the same refusal every day.
I've spent my career building products from zero: a consumer device named a CES Innovation Awards honoree, 500+ days on factory floors in Asia, software used by tens of millions of people. Liacare is the first thing I've built that I needed years before I knew how to make it — a safety net with no cameras and fall checks that run inside the home.
It's the device my grandfather would have said yes to. That's the entire spec.

The Nightlight has no camera and no lens. Radar can't take a picture. The fall checks run on the Nightlight, in her home. After a possible fall, her spoken answer is understood in the cloud and not kept.
Designed to belong at home. Nothing to hang around her neck. Liacare looks like premium home decor because that's what it has to be: a device a proud parent is happy to have on the wall, not a piece of medical equipment.
A dropped book is not an emergency. Every alert is checked twice, and then the Nightlight asks her out loud if she's okay. If she says she's fine, it ends at home and nobody is told.

Alexander has spent his career taking new hardware from idea to people's homes. As Chief Product Officer at Heatbit he shipped two connected home devices to thousands of homes ($2.5M+ revenue). One of them was a CES 2024 Innovation Awards honoree. 500+ days on factory floors across Asia. Earlier, strategy work at Deloitte Digital and BCG, then software products serving tens of millions of users.
3× Russian RoboCup champion, 2025 Brazilian nationals winner. She designs and builds the whole device: the electronics, the software that runs on it and the casing. She builds and tests the working prototypes.
